Eyelet Triangles - Free Knitting Pattern

Eyelet Triangles

I used worsted weight yarn & bulky weight yarn, but you can use any weight and just adjust the pattern according to your yarn you chose.

I used Paton’s Classic Wool in Aran that I dyed with Kool Aide for the rounded decrease version.

I used Yarn Bee Andes Alpaca in Touch of class for the squared decrease version.
Needles:

US 7 - 4.5 mm
US 9 - 5.5 mm

Co: 60 stitches with US 7s

Do 1x1 ribbing for 10 rounds.

Switch to US 9s and increase K2, KfB around. – 80 sts

Start eyelet pattern:

Yo, k2tog 10 times (over 20 sts), knit 20, yo k2tog 10 times (over 20 sts) knit 20
Knit next round
K1, yo& K2tog 9 times, k1, knit 20, k1, yo & k2tog, k1, knit 20
Knit next round

Continue in this manner until you have an eye let triangle. "Chart" below.

Once you complete the charted section, knit two rounds for bulky & knit 1 inch for worsted weight yarn and then begin decreases as follows:

K2tog, k16, SSK around
Knit around
K2 tog, K14, SSK around
K around

Continue in this manner until 8 sts are left and pull through live stitches and weave in ends. This decrease makes the top more square.

I find the easiest way to keep track of this kind of decrease is to mark off every 20 sts. You will decrease before and after each marker.

You can also do decreases this way for a rounded top:
K8, K2 tog around
Knit around
K7, k2 tog around
K around

Whichever way you like to decrease works with this pattern. You can mix & match with the yarn weight & the decreases.

This is the bulky hat with the square decreases.

This is the worsted weight hat with the round decreases.

If you find any errors, let me know ASAP! Or even if you have suggestions to improve this design.
