Friday, September 24, 2010

So, we went all over town today. Rummage sales and thrift stores. I didn't buy a lot, but there was ONE thing I was super excited about...

$5.00; St. Vincent de Paul.
A 1975 Husqvarna Viking  6000 model 6440. It didn't come with a power cords so I thought I'd just call around to different sewing stores. WELL! I took it to Heuers and the guy says the cam is cracked so basically, this sewing machine is junk. I am pretty much just heartbroken.

$3.00; St. Vincent de Paul. A lace swag. I'm going to use this for embellishments of clothing.
$1.00; Salvation Army. I might embellish this with mod podge and some cool fabric or paper. Maybe even paint. I'm not sure.
All I know is that I'm suuuuuuper mad about the sewing machine. I'm mad and sad. I was really hoping I'd have finally found one worth it. Oh well, there's another one I'm looking at that's in a cabinet. I had Paige look at it and she thinks it will be okay. It's an older Singer. The guy at Heuers Sewing said I should get this Jenome Magnolia machine, which is nice, but he wanted $265 for it. Yeah, in your dreams fixodent breath. I don't have that kind of money for a friggen' sewing machine.

My parents are going to go thrifting tomorrow, so hopefully they will be able to find one. If not, and I don't buy that cabinet Singer, my mom might give me her portable Singer and she'll but the Jenome Magnolia machine online. I don't know. All I know is that I NEED a freaking sewing machine.

Anyway, that's all for this time.

Nail Art Time! II

I tried my hand at another set of Star Wars nails.

The original artist: [link]

Left hand: Thumb = R2D2, Pointer = C3PO, Middle = Storm Trooper, Ring = Darth Vader (bad), Pinky = Boba Fett.

Instead of doing a full hand of lightsaber on my right hand, I did Chewbacca on the thumb, Jango Fett on my pointy finger, Yoda is my middle finger (he looks like he was mauled by Chewie.), My ring finger is supposed to be the Rancor and my pinkie is a lightsaber.

These are just my toesies. I wanted a cute floral print on them. Did I do a good job? I like them. :D

Friday, September 17, 2010 (Little late!)

This post comes a tad late. I was really sick over the weekend, and I still am. So excuse the pajama pants and the dazed look on my face(s). It's been a rough few days. Started with a sore throat then progressed into sinus drainage and a bad cough. My lungs are clear though, so no gunk in there. I was so doped up on cold and allergy medication that my eyes dilated funny and I was dizzy. Not good, but I needed some relief. Now, I have the sniffles and a barking cough. Ugh. Makes my throat hurt when I cough. I've blown my nose so much it's all sore and scaly. Ick. My nose looks like a leper.

Now, without further ado, my thrifty finds from Friday the 17th!

$2.00; St. Vincent de Paul.
I did not buy this sweater to wear. I bought this sweater for upcycling. I'm either going to turn it into sweater boots or a few pairs of mittens and possibly a hat. What do you think I should do with it?

$3.00; St. Vincent de Paul. Again, this one is not for wearing, but for crafting and upcycling. This ugly sweater is destined to be a pair of boots, I think. Any other suggestions?

$1.49; Goodwill. This sweater I've had for a long time. I've just never worn it yet. As you can see, it's a tad short. What I think I'm going to do with it is make it into a cardigan. Any other suggestions?

$2.00; St. Vincent de Paul. This sweater is for wearing. I was going to turn this one into a cardigan, but now I can't bring myself to do it because it is so pretty. Maybe I'll put some embellishments on it. I'm not sure yet. Any suggestions?

$2.00; St. Vincent de Paul. This is another sweater for wearing. I looove the color green. I thought about crafting this into a cardigan, but again, I just can't bring myself to do it. I like it too much. I might embellish this one, too, but I'm not sure. Any suggestions?

$2.00; St. Vincent de Paul. This is one for wearing also. I love cardigans. Easy on, easy off. I will probably embellish this one too, and I'm going to do something different with the buttons. I'm not really a fan. I'm just not sure what yet. Any suggestions?

That's it for this bag of swag. I got all this stuff for about $5 and some change. All the clothing was 50% off! Woot!  I'd love your ideas and opinions on some of these! I can't wait to hear what you think!

Owl love!

This is an old owl figurine my mom has. I loooove it. Because I looove owls. I think owls were huge in the 70's. I always seem to be like 40 years too late on the "cool" stuff. That's okay though. Vintage anything is awesome.

Wednesday September 8, 2010

So we thrifted a little bit today. I had to go buy a new watch with a plastic band because I destroyed YET another leather band.

All items are from Goodwill today! :)

$3.99; fall colored shirt with leaves on it.
I actually bought this for my mom. We are going to share it.
(Ignore my stupid face.)

$6.99; brown leather cowboy boots. Love these. To replace my old ones that are just about dead. (Ignore my 'tard face.)

I just wanted to quick throw up the photos of the detail on the boots! :)

$3.99; cream colored "vintagey" top from Old Navy.
I love love LOVE this top. :)

That's all for this bag of thriftyness!

Nail Art Time!

This is how I did my nails today.

So cute! :)

I might post some older photos of my previous nail arts, but I might not. It depends on who is interested in seeing them.

Wednesday September 1, 2010

So.. we went to some thrift shops yesterday. I bought some cool stuff. :D
But please, please PLEASE ignore my gross hair. It needs to be dirty for me to dye it.
I bought some other stuff that I didn't post, but I can just tell you what they are..

I bought some wind pants for $.50 at Salvation Army, and $1.00 pair of dress capris for work at Salvation Army. I also bought some white knee high boots from Good will for $4.99. The boots are for my INFECTION! Second Annual Oshkosh Zombie Walk.  INFECTION! Official Facebook Event Page I'm going to be a zombie Princess Leia, so I needed white boots, lol. Goodwill has all their Halloween stuff out already. They have like super vintage-y stuff, like from the 60's and the 70's. That's like... blasphemy. You can't do that!! Those garments need to be saaaaaved! I absolutely LOVE vintage clothing. As if you couldn't already tell. I might go back and buy various pieces of vintage goodness.

$2.00; St. Vincent de Paul.
An old man sweater from Sears from like the late 70's I'd have to say.

$1.00; Salvation Army.
Cute sweater purse. I'm going to use this for the winter.

$1.00; Salvation Army.
A cute floral "dressy" skirt. I'll probably wear it all the time though.

$1.00; Salvation Army.
Just a cute pair of bermuda shorts with cute colors. :)

Anywhoos. This is it for this thrifty bag of swag. :D
